John Starr

John is an international lawyer/businessman who has been involved with Aspen since 1979. With degrees from Harvard College and Columbia Law School, John has had an eclectic career representing a broad mix of clients ranging from Howard Hughes to the Grateful Dead and has developed cable and pay television systems in Costa Rica, Greece and the United Kingdom.  More locally, John has enjoyed his service on a number of Valley boards and commissions, including Trustee of Pitkin County Open Space & Trails Program, RFTRA, Grassroots TV, Leadership Aspen, and Commercial Core & Lodging Commission, being named City of Aspen Volunteer of the Year in 1997.  

John’s love of the mountains has been reinforced by trekking through Nepal and Bhutan and is excited to be aiding AIMF’s outreach to the world’s mountain communities.  John currently divides his time between Colorado and Sydney, Australia where he maintains a family home with his daughter Bella.
